John Quincy Johnson (1820-1884)
and Sally Latting (1819-1895)

My father believed that this photo showed his great grandparents, and was taken circa 1878.

They were married on 24 March, 1844. They engaged in general farming, and their farm (assumedly shown here in the picture) was inherited by their son Hiram.

The Quincy name is the same as that found in John Quincy Adams, and it is because the Johnsons and the Adams' married two sisters; the Quincy "girls". This Quincy family is also the origin of Quincy, Mass.

Sally Latting's father was the last in the famous line of Richard Latting's, and was the family which founded Lattingtown on Long Island.

Their youngest child was Theophilus Johnson, the builder of the house we knew in Hillsdale, NY.
