Beginning with interfaith prayers and blessings for peace, the evening's program will feature a vocal suite from "West Side Story" marking Leonard Bernstein's centenary. In addition, Lauren Flanigan of the Metropolitan Opera and Amy Burton of the New York City Opera will perform a new work by Artist-in-Residence Glen Cortese.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

For many years, a volunteer chorus has sung at the annual New Year’s Eve Concert for Peace. Certainly, this year’s concert will be very special in our dazzling restored space. Music featured this year will be highlights from Broadway, opera, a piece written by Maestro Glenn Cortese and the Chorale from Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.

For this event, we have formed the New York Festival Singers, including members of a wide range of choruses and choirs throughout the city. All are volunteer singers. In the past, only a few singers from the Cathedral have joined us. For this special year, we’d like to open the invitation to all Cathedral members to join this us. There are 4 rehearsals on the evenings preceding New Year’s Eve. Concert dress is black tie.

Anyone interested can contact me, Kristin Bergfeld, member of the Cathedral Choir for 24 years, at (212) 666-6649, or by Email kpbergfeld@aol.com
