And we will all have a great time doing it. Usher in Lent like they do in New Orleans!

Click here to buy this book Author and congregation-member Joy Carol will have her newly published book Towers of Hope: Stories to Help Us Heal at the Mardi Gras. For every book sold at this event (price $14), Joy and her publisher Forest of Peace Publishing will contribute $3 to the Cathedral Fire Appeal.

In this turbulent time of anxiety and insecurity around the world, we need to "hear" stories of how people have successfully faced tough challenges, stories that show us how to heal the scars and pain in our lives. Such accounts can help us put our own wounds in a more meaningful and hopeful context.

Towers of Hope recounts stories about people who suffered from tremendously difficult situations, such as abuse, addictions, imprisonment, war, terrorism, life-threatening illness, and approaching death. Although unable to change the terrible things that happened to them, they responded to their problems by transforming what seemed like hopeless situations into healing experiences and personal triumphs. These stories are tailor-made for these difficult times in which we live, for they show us that there can be good news in the midst of suffering.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu has said about Towers of Hope:"There are many broken and hurting people in the world and we are part of that wounded humanity yearning for healing and wholeness. Joy Carol tells so eloquently these moving stories that fill us with hope that we too can become more whole."

Don't miss the opportunity to get this special book, which includes several healing stories about members of St. Saviour's Congregation, at the Mardi Gras and help make another contribution to the Cathedral Fire Appeal.

"QUESTIONING FAITH: CONFESSIONS OF A SEMINARIAN" is the dramatic quest of filmmaker Macky Alston, a minister-in-training and hospital chaplain, who is thrown into a crisis of faith when a close friend and fellow student dies of AIDS. Over the course of the film, Alston encounters an extraordinary group of people who are struggling with experiences that challenge their beliefs - from Muslims to Southern Baptists, from atheists to Buddhists to Orthodox Jews. Together, their stories provide a compelling portrait of people grappling with life at its most challenging, and how we can support each other in times of crisis across the divides of difference.

Thanksgiving Celebration at the Sunday Soup Kitchen on Sunday, November 24th.
"Cathedral Community Cares" is requesting donations of cooked turkeys, pies and other baked goodies that can be dropped off on that day between 9:00am-11:30am. The Congregation has been very helpful in past years donating turkeys and lots of goodies. We hope we will have a similar response this year.  Anything you can do to spread the word would be helpful. For further info or any questions, contact George McCloud, CCC Food Manager at 212-316-7579.  (As a reminder--no meal is served on Thanksgiving by CCC--for information on other places to volunteer, congregation members should call NY Cares at 212-228-5000.)

We are excited that NY Cares and NBC will be helping us with our annual need for winter coats and toys for the winter season and Holidays. However, we can always give away more, so individuals who would like to donate used coats and brand new toys to be distributed during the holidays are welcome to drop items off at Cathedral Community Cares, Monday through Thursday 9:00am-8:30pm and Fridays, 9:00am-5:00pm. ADVENT ROSARY
    1 - 2pm in St. James's Chapel
"There is great power in individual prayer, and even greater power when we pray together. Mary says to all of us, and to women in particular, how fiercely loving and human it is to say 'yes' to God." Patricia Miranda

Together we will pray the Joyful mysteries of the rosary. The Joyful mysteries begin with the announcement of the birth of Christ to his presentation at the temple. If you have never said the rosary before you are welcome to join us. We will have rosaries for your use if you do not have your own. The saying of the rosary is a contemplative act. We pray slowly and with intent that our prayers rise up as incense. It is a wonderful meditative experience in this time of stress and uncertainty. We open our hearts to the greater mystery and together join together in a community of prayer. For more information, please contact Sandy Schubert 212-642-5042 or msmostrev@aol.com

Rosary rota: We would like to schedule the Rosary on an ongoing basis. The same people are not able to do it every month and sometimes it is nice to pray and not lead. If you are interested in leading a Rosary on the occasional Sunday please let us know! We have the Rosaries and material on how to lead the Rosary. It doesn't usually take more then an hour and it is a wonderful and rewarding experience to lead others in prayer. Interested: Sandy Schubert 212-642-5042 email: msmostrev@aol.com Or Patricia Miranda email: mirarts@aol.com

Event of interest to all the Anglican Communion
Archbishop Rowan WilliamsEnthronement of the Most Rev. Dr. Rowan Williams as the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury.

The Congregation of St. Saviour notes with enthusiasm the upcoming Enthronement on February 27th of the Most Rev. Dr. Rowan Williams as the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury. The position of Archbishop of Canterbury is one of the instruments of unity in the Anglican Communion, and he acts as a focal point for our 90 million members worldwide.

The event will take place at Canterbury Cathedral, where the first Archbishop, St. Augustine, took office in the year 597. The ceremony should begin at 10am EST, and will be broadcast by the BBC, or for a web cast, go to www.anglicancommunion.org/

Dr. Williams is no stranger to us, and he was in New York visiting our Diocese on September 11th, 2001. He will next be in New York in April, as part of a Conference on Benedictine Spirituality in the Contemporary World, to be held at Trinity Wall Street. For more info on the conference, please call 1-800-457-0244.

To learn more about the new Archbishop, read an interview of him by the Daily Telegraph at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2003/02/12/nbish112.xml
