The Episcopal Church gets a new Presiding Bishop

Most Rev Katharine Jefferts SchoriIn rites on November 4–5 at Washington National Cathedral, the Episcopal Church will welcome the Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori as its 26th Presiding Bishop. The investiture will occur in the context of a Eucharistic celebration at 11 am on Saturday, November 4. The cathedral's 11 am All Saints' Sunday liturgy on November 5 will include the formal seating of Bishop Jefferts Schori in the seat symbolic of her office. Presiding Bishop Jefferts Schori will preside and preach at this service and will be webcast by the cathedral.

Bishop Jefferts Schori, an airplane pilot and former oceanographer, is the first woman in Anglicanism's nearly 520-year history to lead a church province as its chief bishop. She was elected June 18 by her colleagues in the House of Bishops from among seven nominees. The House of Deputies confirmed her election the same day.

The national church has prepared an insert for worshipers this weekend to know more about the installation of the Presiding Bishop and some of her plans.  To view it, please click here
