Our Great Blue Wall, which conceils the restoration work, gets a little high tech lighting in honor of "The Spirit of Pride". Just another Sunday with the faithful worshipping together.
On Sunday, June 26th, the Cathedral celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Ordination of the Rev. Canon John Luce. Shown here, Barbara Hohol expressing her deep thanks and affection for John. The reception line was about 100 feet long!
Refreshments and "Jubilee" Gold baloons made a festive welcome after the service (shown here just before we all decended on John and the food!).
On Wednesday, February 2, 2005, members of the Congregation and Cathedral community participated in a rousing housing rally at City Hall. Before the rally, members of Habitat for Humanity, the Interfaith Assembly for Homelessness & Housing and others met at St. Paul’s Chapel, where we assembled in the pews and opened with a prayer offered by Allessandra Pena. We then, together read the St. Francis Peace Prayer. This photo shows us leaving St. Paul's Chapel.

were married in the Cathedral, with members of their respective families, the Congregation, and people from around the Diocese present. Afterwards, we celebrated at a reception in the nave until a very late hour!





The Cathedral had two tables at the “21st Annual National Night Out Against Crime” in Morningside Park on Tuesday, August 3rd, along with our local precinct and community groups. Several Cathedral departments and programs set up tables so folks could learn more about us. National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. As part of the annual AIDSWALK, Congregation and Cathedral Community Cares staff walked 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), for a lot of fun and a very inspiring chance to raise money to find a cure for AIDS. The "before" shot (to the left) shows Victor, Minga, Chris, Raquel, and others, plus 90,000 New Yorkers, doing our part.

On Thursday, May 13, 2004, Congregation members and Cathedral staff (shown here are Hal Weiner, Raquel Granda and Victor Carrera), participated in "Building the Blessed City", which is a multi institutional effort to ending chronic homelessness and establishing a sound housing policy in New York City. Along with other parishes in NYC, members of the congregation joined Cathedral Community Cares and the residents of the Cathedral’s Transitional Shelter at an overnight vigil from Thursday, May 13th through Friday, May 14th, a 2PM stand at City Hall to call for a commitment from the Mayor and the City Council; a 7PM Interfaith Convocation held at St. Paul's Chapel; a procession to City Hall Park; and the all-night vigil ending with another call for a commitment from elected officials at 8am.
It started out with prayer and speeches at 2 PM. in City Hall Park, on a sunny and very hot day which found Episcopal clergy, Bishop Don Taylor, Dean Kowalski, and The Rev. Storm Swain and their counterparts in other faiths bearing up in traditional black garb under umbrellas. They’d come out to offer a prayer in front of a little symbolic house constructed by Habitat For Humanity, NYC and put wooden “ planks “ representing the four components of the Convocation’s public policy platform

St. Saviour Habitat volunteers began building homes on neighboring Hart Street during the 2000 Jimmy Carter Work Project and we're pleased to play a role in helping 32 families achieve the dream of home ownership.

Sunday, June 29th,2003 was Gay Pride March, which began with a street eucharist.
Bishop Croneberger of the Diocese of Newark was the celebrant, as some of our clergy and congregation members worship together.
About 14 of our members participated with the Diocese and a dozen other congregations (not all of those who joined us made it into the photos!).
We had a great time, and a wonderful opportunity to witness to the radical inclusivity of our congregation.

On March 15th, 2003, the Cathedral participated in a worldwide Candlelight vigil for peace.

On December 11th, 2002, The Rev. Brother Anthony-Francis, Hermit, takes his Life Profession Vows to
The Right Rev. Mark Sean Sisk, Bishop of New York at Holyrood Church. Brother Anthony-Francis is an important person to our Congregation, and about a dozen of us showed up to witness this deeply moving service.
The Congregation held its annual Fall retreat (Nov. 22-24) at Holy Cross Monastery. The theme was "forgiveness", and was lead by the Rev. Anne Brewer, MD.
The Strawberry Festival took on special meaning this year. On June 23rd, 2002, 400 members gathered outside on the Bishop's Green, to honor Rob Wright and his family, and to send them off to Atlanta in royal fashion. The Events Committee outdid themselves, with fabulous food, beautiful decorations, a splended cake, and great entertainment.Photo credit thanks to Keri Leary!
On June 16, in the Chapel of Saint Saviour, The Wild Angels - our poets & writers group - read from their collected works, which was also published in the 2nd edition of the Wild Angels anthology. Our contributing writers are shown at left. The wonderful event was attended by several dozen enthusiastic listeners, and after the reading enjoyed much fellowship, and light refreshments. The Wild Angels program resumes in the Fall.
